What's the main difference between club and rec sports?
Recreational Sports are designed for all skill levels and emphasize fun, learning, character development, and participation in a Christ-centered environment. Practices and games are local, time commitments are lower, and every athlete has the opportunity to grow and play.
Club Sports are for athletes seeking a higher level of competition and development. Teams typically require tryouts, practice more frequently, compete against stronger opponents, and often travel for tournaments. Club programs are ideal for athletes who are ready to make a greater commitment to developing their skills while continuing to grow in character and faith.
What is the average time commitment?
Recreational Sports: Most families can expect 1–2 practices and/or games per week, with a typical commitment of 2–4 hours weekly during the season.
Club Sports: Club teams generally practice 2–3 times per week and compete in weekend tournaments or matches, resulting in an average commitment of 6–12+ hours per week, depending on the team, age group, and tournament schedule.
Bill Attinger
Club Sports Director
Born and raised here in San Diego, I am a believer, blessed husband and a grateful father of three. As a former foster kid, I am deeply passionate about empowering children, providing growth opportunities, and sharing the joy I found when I became a Christian and found out that God had a plan for my life.
After more than 25 years of coaching, I have found nothing more rewarding than inspiring others and creating new ways for families to thrive.
